Annual Refuge Retreat
Buddhist faith means principally faith in Buddha Shakyamuni, the founder of the Buddhist religion. Practitioners of Buddhism practice the teachings, or Dharma, taught by Buddha, and rely upon the fellowship of the Buddhist community for support, called the Sangha. Together, Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha are called the “Three Jewels” of Buddhism.
During this unique drop-in retreat, practitioners have time to study refuge, learn the refuge prayer, and meditate during each session. Sessions generally last from 1.5 to 2 hours and include the chanted prayers called “Essence of Good Fortune.”
Nyungne Weekend
Nyungne (pronounced “noon-yay”) is a special purification practice that lasts two days each year around Buddha’s Enlightenment Day. Each day practitioners fast, do chanted prayers, and make physical prostrations. You must commit to all the sessions in a given day in order to participate. If you choose to attend both days, the first day you engage in a partial fast with one meal only at lunch time; the second day you engage in a total fast of no food and no drink for 24 hours.
