Meditation in Charleston, SC
The Meditation in Charleston group is a branch of Kadampa Meditation Center South Carolina (KMC SC), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose aim is to help the general public to develop inner peace by offering meditation classes and practical Buddhist advice suitable for busy modern life. Our classes and events are open to everyone, you do not need to have experience or be Buddhist to benefit from the teachings and meditations. No pre-registration is required, just drop in!

Our “Simply Meditate” class is a perfect opportunity to learn different meditations and the basics of a meditation practice. Each class includes two guided 15-minute meditations and instructions that can easily be integrated into daily life.
These drop-in classes, suitable for beginners and experienced meditators alike, help us discover the profound benefits of engaging in meditation and enable us to develop a naturally peaceful, calm and happy mind.
Our classes will closely mirror the meditations found on the following meditation CDs (available in our bookstore):
The first is a basic breathing meditation that helps to disengage the mind from the busyness of everyday life and create a special feeling of inner peace. The second combines mindfulness of the breath with visualization, or creative imagination, and leads to a deep feeling of inner calm and purity. The third is a special breathing meditation that combines mindfulness of the breath with the recitation of mantra.
The first is a meditation on cherishing others – thinking that others are important, and that their happiness and freedom are important. The second is a practical meditation on compassion – the sincere wish to protect others from suffering. The third is a practical meditation on love – the sincere wish to give happiness to others.
The first meditation lays the foundation for meditating on the mind by helping to temporarily overcome physical appearances. The second introduces us to the clarity of our mind, and the third is a meditation on our root mind.
Charleston Branch Teacher:
Frances has been practicing Kadampa Dharma for over ten years. As a member of the KMC-SC Teacher Training Program, she is guided in Buddhist principles and practices and she learns how to teach these to others as well. Frances lives in Charleston with her family.
